Steve Laskey

Steve Laskey

Steve Laskey, 69 years old, lives on the Nestucca River in Pacific City on the northwest coast of Oregon. He took his first black tailed buck on his 12th birthday in northern CA. Since then he has been fortunate enough to enjoy hunting adventures for big game from north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska to Zimbabwe Africa! Using both rifle and archery tackle, he has taken nearly all North American big game species from Coues deer in Mexico to a B&C class moose in Alaska with a bow on 9/11/2001.

To this day, there is nothing more exciting for him than the sight of a huge mule deer buck in the sage or still hunting for a big black tail in heavy cover during the rut. Deer are now and will always be, the bread and butter species of the North American Hunter. Since he killed a whopper muley in NE NV in 1976, Steve has become alarmed by the rapid decline of deer numbers and hunter opportunity. What used to be an over-the-counter tag now takes a seeming lifetime of preference points. The days of yearly hunts for the whole gang in mule deer country are virtually over.

Steve joined the Mule Deer Foundation in the late 1980s and was the first chapter chairman in Portland Oregon. He has chosen to give back to what has been such a big part of his life by naming the MDF as the beneficiary to a portion of his estate.
